Introduction

Travel Security: 'Security is preparedness'

Most of us are apprehensive about traveling by the apparent risks. We could get sick or killed in a vehicle wreck. Perhaps even people trying to rob, cheat, mug and possibly be a victim or a witness to an act of terrorism.

The media's vivid coverage of the Bali and London Bombings, kidnapping of tourists' for ransom in the Philippines, Tsunami or Hurricanes in the region provides us with some sad examples.

At the basic level, do we know the security environment of the country we will be living, working or visiting? How does one safe guard against crimes such as theft, muggings and sexual attacks? Do we know enough on how to minimize becoming a collateral casualty of a terrorist strike? What is a 'Travel Ready Bag' in the event of an emergency evacuation? Are there ways in appreciating safety/security risks and reducing them to manageable levels?

Objectives

This half day seminar is to assist professionals who travel with the relevant knowledge and skills at successful self and equipment security and handling emergencies.

1) Familiarization on the types of travel security threats.
2) Understanding the requirements for safer travel.
3) Apply security risk management at minimizing self and equipment loss.
4) Employing the 'OODA Cycle' in minimizing security threats.
5) Planning communications to minimize anxiety and crisis control.

Benefits

1) The individuals increased 'situational awareness' of potential threats in travel can enhance their personal security.

2) The organization benefits because employees' can now thoroughly focus on their professional requirements.

3) Equips employees with the knowledge of travel security threats and improves their survivability.

4) The organization gains by minimizing personnel/equipment replacement costs, medical/insurance settlements and negative media coverage.

5) Effective communication plans will contribute in reducing anxieties on both employees and the organization during a crisis. This will facilitate 'damage control' efforts in meeting the clients`informal and contractual expectations.
