Crisis Counselling Skills Workshop
Objectives
The training is designed to provide HR professionals with specialized skills in the
more directed crisis counselling as part of their repertoire of counselling skills.
At the end of the training, participants will be able to
1. Understand the nature of crisis
2. Identify the victims
3. Recognise the presenting symptoms of people in crisis
4. Apply principles of short-term intervention
5. Use skills to deal with the immediate aspects of disturbed behaviour of victims
6. Assist victims in recognizing sources of support
7. Follow up with victims in their recovery
8. Understand related ideas in crises
Course Outline
1. The nature of Crisis and stress
2. Identifying the victims and the symptoms they may present
3. Principles of Intervention
4. Placing & Leading - a technique to deal with the immediate aspects of disturbed behaviour
5. Psychological Debriefing - a technique to recount the critical incident, allow for ventilation, disseminate correct information & mobilise resources.
6. Related ideas in stress & crises
As a result of the training, participants will also gain the benefit of:
1. Understand how stress affect people
2. Understand how they personally react in crises
3. Knowing how they and their families cope in crises
4. Learning new coping mechanisms
5. Seeing a network of support on ordinary things
Who should attend
HR & Non HR, Directors, Managers, Executives, Assistants, Admin assistants, Junior
Supervisors, Officers and Executives in support roles handling staff and those who
have had some basic counseling skills.
