HR Counseling Skills Workshop
Objectives
This program is design to equip HR and Admin professionals who might need to take
on the role of counselor within their scope of work. This course will teach the basic
skills needed to help those counseled realize their own potential for handling the
challenges they face like:
1. The Carkhuff counselling process model
2. How to develop rapport with the client
3. How to ask questions and give feedback for developing client understanding
4. How to engage the intrinsic motivations of the client
5. The requirements of Crisis counselling
6. How to assess themselves as counsellors
Course Outline
Day 1
1. Understand what counseling is and is not about.
2. Understand the scope of counseling within the role of HR.
3. Understand human motivation and why people continue to do the things they do.
4. Practice the essential skills of being present, listening, questioning & giving feedback for bringing about perspective and behaviour change in the client.
Day 2
1. Able to use the counseling skills required in the 4 phases of counseling:
1.1 Exploring the issue, identify the presenting problem
1.2 Understanding the motivations, identifying the learning needs
1.3 Acting - creating an action plan
1.4 Follow-Up on action plan & identify modifications
2 . Implement a Counselor Self-Assessment plan
