HRSINGAPORE® Community Reports January 2007 Dear HR Professionals What can human resource (HR) professionals do when an employee decides to take their annual leave in half-days? For example taking 14 half days instead of 7 full days? Well some HR practitioners in the HRSINGAPORE® forum this month say that the HR department may have a policy to restrict the number of half-day leave applications since the law is silent on this. "After all it is management prerogative whether or not to grant annual leave" says Mr Ong Loong Tee, VP for HR Consultancy in HRSINGAPORE®. "Leave is subject to management approval as it has to meet operational needs", adds, Mr Ong. Some of the other issues HR professionals discussed in January were:
