HRSINGAPORE® Community Reports December 2008 Can staff reject a confirmation letter? Employees are usually put on probation when they are hired by companies here. If the company finds that the new recruit is suitable, the employee is given a confirmation letter. Alternatively, if the new staff underperforms, the company can extend the probation period. This month more than 3000 Human Resource Practitioners discussed, among other topics, what to do if a new employees rejects the company's confirmation letter? While most HR professionals agree that this happens rarely, as most new staff would have served notice to resign beforehand, some companies have have HR policies that confirm new staff automatically if there is no adverse feedback. Some HR practitioners suggested improving the process of confirmation to avoid such instances by giving verbal or email confirmation and then a Confirmation Letter later. This will cover the process sufficiently. However all HR professionals feel that staff should submit notice of resignation early if they do not intend to stay on the job on a permanent basis. This would make it easier to recruit a replacement. Many other issues are discussed in the HRSINGAPORE® Forum.
